The Koala Who Could
A funny rhyming story about dealing with change and overcoming worries, from the bestselling creators of The Lion Inside. Meet Kevin. A koala who likes to keep things the same. Exactly the same. But sometimes change comes along whether we like it or not… And, as Kevin discovers, if you step outside your comfort zone and try new things, you might just surprise yourself!

There can be few things as powerful as regularly reading to a young child. It has astonishing benefits for children: comfort and reassurance, confidence and security, relaxation, happiness and fun. Giving a child time and full attention when reading them a story tells them they matter. It builds self-esteem, vocabulary, feeds imagination and even improves their sleeping patterns.

At the heart of Good Enough Start’s work is a commitment to supporting families in Millom to feel empowered and confident in building strong, loving bonds with their children. It’s not about perfection but about equipping parents with the tools they need to nurture these crucial relationships and set their families up for success—both now and in the future. This mission is at the heart of the Little Minds Book Club.
Early exposure to books and language is essential, as 90% of a child’s brain develops by age 5. In fact, reading to babies every day can expose them to over 1.4 million words a year, significantly boosting their communication and literacy skills. The National Literacy Trust warns of a growing “cost of literacy crisis,” with 1 in 5 children aged 5 to 8 not owning a single book. By providing families with books for babies from birth to one year old, Good Enough Start aims to create a love of reading in Millom families and lay a strong foundation that can help change this worrying trend for the better.
