Little Minds Book Club

Free monthly books from pregnancy until age 1, for little ones in the Millom area — start building your baby’s first library today

Small, shared moments,  like reading together can gently shape your baby’s world. Little Minds Book Club brings these moments into your home, with a free book each month to enjoy together.

Little Minds Book Club isn’t about teaching your baby to read. It’s about noticing what they’re interested in, sharing moments of closeness and building connection through everyday interaction.

Those early moments matter

The first years of life shape how babies feel safe, build relationships and explore the world.

Little Minds Book Club is one small way to support this and is an easy option to add to your everyday routine. These shared moments not only support your relationship, but also open up new ways to notice, talk, and explore together — from colours and objects to characters and feelings.

Over time, reading creates a rich language environment for your baby. Hearing words regularly helps build brain connections and supports how children learn, communicate, and make sense of the world as they grow.

Research shows that babies who are regularly spoken to and read with can hear up to 1,400 more words each day. Over time, these small, everyday moments can build into a significant difference by the time children reach school.

Who is Little Minds Book Club for and how much is it?

Families with a baby or bump, from pregnancy up to 1 year old, living in the Millom catchment area, and it’s completely free. All we ask is that you complete a feedback form when your Book Club experience comes to an end.

What if I move house or want to update my details?

No problem at all, just send us an email at info@goodenoughstart.org and we’ll get everything updated for you.

What if my baby is a twin (or I have more than one child under 1)?

You’ll receive one book per household — a lovely way to introduce sharing and reading together from the very start!

Are the books new or second-hand?

Every book you receive is brand new. Once your little one has enjoyed it, we’d love for you to pass it on to another family, friend, or local group, that way each book gets to spread a little more reading magic and stays loved within the community.

Is this only for first-time parents?

Little Minds Book Club is open to all parents from pregnancy up to your baby’s first birthday — whether this is your first little one or you’ve already got a house full. Every child is different, and each one deserves their own special start to building a love of books.
