Toddle Talk Courses

Our free Baby Signing course is for babies aged 5 months to 2 years living in Millom and surrounding villages. Led by British Sign Language–trained practitioners, the sessions introduce simple signs that build early communication before words. Our Baby Signing sessions create space to notice, respond, and build shared understanding in everyday moments, strengthening early communication and connection from the very beginning.

During the course, you will:

  • Learn how to notice and respond to support your babies everyday communication through songs, games, and activities that make signing fun.

  • Learn to read your baby’s cues which can help reduce frustration (for you and your little one) and share joyful, meaningful moments together.

  • Help your child express themselves and support their social interaction with other children all whilst building a supportive network with other parents yourself.

We intentionally keep our Baby Signing Courses small, with a maximum of 8 families per session. This ensures that every parent and baby receives attention and guidance. With a smaller group, our two trained facilitators can focus on each family’s unique needs, helping you feel confident in noticing and responding to your baby’s cues, supporting communication, and practicing signing in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The course is led by British Sign Language trained Parent Infant Practitioners offering hands-on, playful learning that fits naturally into daily routines.

The Toddle Talk Programme

The Toddle Talk programme was created in Ipswich, Suffolk in 2009 by Ann Lay, mum of two and passionate early communication advocate. Ann created a programme that uses a multi-sensory approach — seeing, hearing, feeling, and doing — so your child learns in a way that sticks.

Toddle Talk teaches simple, easy-to-learn signs that help babies and toddlers express themselves. Through fun songs, games, and interactive activities, children learn to communicate their needs, feelings, and ideas, while parents learn to tune in and respond effectively. It’s a practical, enjoyable way to strengthen early communication skills and make everyday interactions more meaningful.
